Understanding wig cap constructions
One of the first decisions you will need to make when purchasing a wig is which of the diff erent wig constructions will work best for your lifestyle, current hair condition, and face shape. Th e wig construction will determine the diverse number of hairstyles you can wear while still remaining undetectable. Some wig cap constructions are much more obvious than their more expensive counterpart that fl ies under the radar. Th ere are diff erent factors to consider when shopping for a wig such as pricing, wig construction, materials, hair quality, hair texture, color, attachments, and density.
Swiss Lace
Swiss lace is the finest lace used for making lace wigs. It is soft to the touch and extremely fragile. Swiss lace is totally undetectable because of how fine it is, making it one of the most popular choices. Because of how fine the lace is your wig is virtually undetectable.
French Lace
Th is is a fine lace, but not as fi ne as Swiss Lace. What it lacks in fi nesse, it makes up for in durability, making it a great choice for women with an active lifestyle. Like Swiss Lace, the French Lace base is also virtually undetectable, however, it may not feel as soft and fl exible on your hairline.
Full Lace Wig
A full lace wig is constructed with each hair attached individually to a thin layer of delicate lace throughout the entire lace base. The lace base gives the illusion of scalp; therefore, the hair can be parted in any direction or section. Full lace wigs offer more versatility than lace front wigs because of the versatility in styling options, such as high ponytails, half up/half down, low ponytails, pigtails, braids, and deep side and center parts. Adoriya's full lace units include:
Lace Frontal
A lace front wig is diff erent from the full lace wig because it only has lace at the front section of the wig rather than the lace covering the entire scalp area. Th e back of the lace front wig is contracted with wefted hair that has been sewn onto the cap of the wig. Lace front wigs are a less expensive option than full lace wigs because its construction requires less lace, while off ering free styling at the front of the hairline. Th e downside to lace front wigs is that it cannot be parted anywhere on the head, only in the front where the lace is present. If you plan to pull your hair back into a high ponytail off the neck or half up/half down, a full lace wig is a more versatile solution.
Center Part Lace Wig
Th e center part lace wig construction is quite diff erent than other lace wig constructions. One of the issues that many women fi nd to be the most diffi cult when wearing lace wigs is creating a natural part, without their natural hair showing. A center part lace wig construction allows you to cut the lace in the center section of the base, exposing the front center section of the lace wig. Th is small section allows the natural hair to be exposed, while parting and blending the natural hair with the rest of the lace wig. Th e application process is similar to the glueless method, two wig combs on either side of the exposed center part, two clips one on each side of the wig, one clip at the crown and one clip at the nape of the neck. Th e section that is exposed is your natural hair. Th e downfall of having clips at the temples is the added volume, causing the wig to appear bulkier. Wig caps, which are designed to protect your hair and scalp, cannot be worn with a center part lace wig, which is NOT recommended.
Glueless Lace Front Wig
A glueless lace front wig is quite similar to a regular lace front wig, both are constructed from lace and wefted hair. Th e biggest diff erence between the two are, glueless lace wigs do not require glue because of the additional security provided by wig combs or clips located at the nape of the neck and temples. Although glue is not required it is recommended you use hairpins for extra security. With a glueless lace front wig, ponytails do not have to be avoided thanks to the adjustable strap and wig combs used for applying the glueless lace front wig. Another added benefi t is the ability to naturally part the hair wherever the lace is present.
